Introduction
Wade House Historic Site in Greenbush, Wisconsin is currently seeking candidates who have basic blacksmithing and general trade skills for part-time Trades Interpreter positions during the 2013 visitor season (May through October). A Trades Interpreter's responsibilities at the site include: Demonstrating basic coal-forge blacksmithing to visitors in the site's Dockstader Blacksmith Shop, demonstrating the sawing of wood planks in the site's 1860s water-powered Herrling Sawmill, speaking with visitors about the site's history, providing general information to visitors, keeping the area around the blacksmith shop and sawmill clean and picked up, and general equipment and building maintenance. Trades Interpreters are required to wear 1860s period clothing (provided by the site) and remain in their clothing during the entire workday.
Job Duties
Successful candidates will have the ability to work comfortably with tools and machinery, the ability to stand for prolonged stretches of time, the ability to lift and carry at least 35 lbs., the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather, the ability to digest and relate interpretive materials to visitors, and the ability to work and communicate well with diverse groups of people, including adults, children, seniors, fellow staff members and site volunteers.

- A criminal background check will be conducted prior to offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.
- The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to hire only individuals who are eligible to work in the United States. Upon reporting for work, an individual will be expected to present proper evidence establishing employability.
- State residency required.
Time Commitment
A Trades Interpreter's workday generally runs from 9:30 am until approximately 5:00 pm (occasionally earlier or later if a school tour or special event is taking place) and Trades Interpreters generally work between 2-5 days per week. Since the site is open to the public 7 days per week, Trades Interpreters are required to work approximately 3 or 4 weekend days per month.
