Wade House Historic Site in Greenbush, Wisconsin is currently seeking candidates who have knowledge of horses and driving skills for part-time Teamster positions during the 2013 visitor season (May through October). A Teamster's responsibilities at the site include: Harnessing and hitching large draft horses to a wagon, driving a team of two horses hitched to a passenger wagon (or, on some special occasions, a stagecoach) loaded with up to twenty persons between the Visitor Center and the site's Historic Area, speaking with visitors about the site's history, providing general information to visitors, cleaning the horse shed, providing adequate water for the horses, unhitching and unharnessing the horses at the end of the day, and putting the horses in a fenced pasture at day's close. Teamsters are required to wear 1860s period clothing (provided by the site) and remain in their clothing during the entire workday.

Job Duties

Successful candidates will have the ability to harness, hitch and drive a team of two draft horses, the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather, the ability to digest and relate interpretive materials to visitors, and the ability to work and communicate well with diverse groups of people, including adults, children, seniors, fellow staff members and site volunteers.

  2. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to hire only individuals who are eligible to work in the United States. Upon reporting for work, an individual will be expected to present proper evidence establishing employability.
  3. State residency required.

Time Commitment

A Teamster's workday generally runs from 9:30 am until approximately 5:30 pm (occasionally earlier or later if a school tour or special event is taking place) and teamsters generally work between 2-5 days per week.
