Docent (Tour Guide)

Time Commitment : Docents are expected to present a minimum of three one-hour programs per month for at least six months.

Special Qualifications: A background check will be conducted prior to an offer of employment.

Job Duties:

Docents present hour-long guided programs within the Museum's permanent galleries for school children and youth groups in grades kindergarten through twelve, and occasionally for adult groups with varying interests. Docents make programs as interactive as possible by using hands-on materials and questioning techniques with their groups.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Docents must have an interest in working with school children and in Wisconsin history and culture. They need to be available on Tuesdays through Fridays, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., during the school year (September through early June). Flexibility and a pleasant demeanor are essential.

Time Commitment:

Each of the eight guided programs requires twelve hours of training. Docents are expected to present a minimum of three one-hour programs per month for at least six months.

Training:

Twelve hours of training includes attending classroom lectures, reading docent materials, studying independently within the Museum galleries, and accompanying experienced docents who are presenting guided programs.
