Flimsies to Furbelows: Women's Dress in the Antebellum Era and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Harper's Ferry
Program Sponsored by the FRIENDS of the Wisconsin Historical Society
Flimsies to Furbelows is truly a "trunk fashion show" featuring pre-Civil War clothing appropriately packed in Nancy Wolfe's 19th-century sea trunk. Nancy, a contributing editor to the recently published "Antique Trader Vintage Clothing Price Guide," will feature much of the clothing in the book. Nancy brings a wealth of information with the generous selection of dresses, bonnets, shoes, undergarments and period fashion accessories (including some for men and children), all from her private collection. She will discuss the features that indicate when they were made and worn. Following a brief intermission with refreshments, Nancy's husband Scott Wolfe will tell stories of his research on abolitionist John Brown and Harper's Ferry. Scott is an avid historian with a keen sense of storytelling.
