Garton Red: A Bright Spot in the Memory
For 95 years, Garton Toy Company of Sheboygan manufactured millions of toys and employed thousands of people. One shade of paint on its wagons, tricycles, and some car models became known as Garton Red within the industry. The company had showrooms in New York, Chicago, Dallas, and Los Angeles and sold toys internationally. Join Ann Huenink McIntyre and Jane Dwyre Garton in discovering the story of the largest juvenile vehicle plant in the world with miniature pedal cars being mass produced from rubber for wheels and steel for the bodies. The company made useful articles (wagons, small tables, and chairs) and luxury toys, like its famous Kidillac.
