African American Genealogy Workshop
Tracing African American ancestry is a daunting task and presents unique problems for the researcher. Historical events such as the slave trade, the institution of slavery and the issue of race call for special research techniques in order to find African American ancestors. The African American Genealogy Workshop will examine the methodology on how to get the most information out of your documents.
This workshop is designed for anyone who has an aspiration to trace their family's roots. At the conclusion of the workshop the participants will able to perform the basic steps essential to successfully trace their ancestry by using censuses, vital records and other resources. The second half of the workshop will examine different methodology on how to get the most information out of your documents by analyzing, interpreting and drawing conclusions from these documents. It will focus on how computer technology has impacted genealogical research.
Guest Lecturer: Eric A. Smith, author, researcher, teacher, T.V. talk show host, national lecturer, past president of Afro-American Genealogical & Historical Society of Chicago.
