23rd Annual Wade House Civil War Weekend

Two full days of Civil War drama unfold in the largest Civil War re-enactment and encampment in Wisconsin. This year will continue to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War with a re-enactment of the September 1863 Battle of Chickamauga. A full schedule of activities extends from 9 am to 7 pm Saturday and 9 am to 5 Sunday, with two authentic battles re-enacted each day — a skirmish at 11 am and a full-scale battle at 2 pm.

Watch the spectacle of hundreds of soldiers — cavalry, infantry and artillery — as they struggle across the field of conflict. Experience the 1860s clash of arms between North and South as Union and Confederate troops set up camp, conduct drills and offer a variety of demonstrations. Civilian and women's issues, a medical field hospital and music of the Civil War era are presented interactively each day, and special hands-on experiences abound. Expanded food and beverage offerings and an extensive array of Civil War-related items are available for sale on site.

Ticket Info: Adults $12; children (5-17) $6; students and senior citizens (65 and older) $10; families $32. Horse-drawn transportation on the site included in ticket cost.

Location Description: Wade House, an 1860s stagecoach inn built to serve traffic along the plank road that connected Fond du Lac and Sheboygan, tells the story of frontier entrepreneur Sylvanus Wade and his family during the Civil War years. In addition to the inn, the historic site includes the recently reconstructed Herrling sawmill, one of the few working, water-powered sawmills of its kind in the nation. Wade House is also home to the Wesley Jung Carriage Museum, which houses the state's largest collection of antique carriages and working wagons.
