'Tavern League' Portraits: A Milwaukee Collaborative Event
Stop by the Palomino Bar in Milwaukee to celebrate the new book,
Tavern League: Portraits of Wisconsin Bars.
Photographer Carl Corey, whose 60 portraits of Wisconsin taverns grace the pages of the hardcover book, and architectural historian Jim Draeger, will provide insight into these cultural icons.
The event is sponsored by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press and Historic Milwaukee Inc. in partnership with Hey Man, Cool! Productions.
The images in "Tavern League" capture the Wisconsin public house as it is today. The pictures are awash with a sense of place — the feel of a gritty floor as a bar stool is pushed back, the ease of sinking into a dimly lit womb of good company and cold beer. Vivid colors intertwine with distinctly average vignettes to reveal the magical Wisconsin Taverns and the people who love them.
Ticket Info: $10 admission fee with proceeds going to support the mission of Historic Milwaukee and future work by Hey Man, Cool! Digital History Productions. Palomino will be offering a drink special: $2.50 Lakefront Pints. Attendees will also receive a souvenir program with info on the Milwaukee bars featured in Corey's book. For one week following the event visit these taverns, present your program, and receive a drink special.
