Historic Diaries: Floyd 1804

May 28, 1804

Editor's Note:

Because they could not carry enough provisions for the entire journey, Lewis and Clark depended on game to be killed along the way. Most days one or more soldiers were deployed on foot to hunt for provisions while the others rowed and paddled the expedition upriver. It was not uncommon for the hunters to be separated from the main body and to spend a night (or more) alone on the prairie until they could catch up again.
