Historic Diaries: Floyd 1804
June 29, 1804
Editor's Note:
Floyd did not mention that this day they narrowly avoided disaster when the keelboat's stern caught on a sandbar and the bow swung violently around, just missing a snagged tree trunk. "The rapidity with which the Boat turned," noted Clark, "was so great that if her bow had Struck the Snag, She must
have either turned over or the bow nocked off." Two of the men were punished for stealing whiskey and getting drunk the previous night.
