The location of this camp can be visited in Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, five miles south of Mound City on U.S. Highway 159. The terrain was described in detail a few years later by Edwin James, in American Journeys document AJ-144a.

Set out errley this morning, prosed on passed a Creek on the N. Side Called Tarcio Creek. it Comes in Back of a Isd on the N. Side. Came to about 12 oclock P. m for the porpos of resting on[e] or two days. the men is all Sick. encamt on an Isd. on the Southe Side floos in Creek Called Granma mohug [Grand Nemahaw] Creek. it is about 100 yards wide. the Land is good and well timberd, High and well Waterd. this Creek Runs up and Heds near the River platt.
