Historic Diaries: Floyd 1804

July 12, 1804

Editor's Note:

The fatigue may explain why, on the previous night, the soldier on guard duty fell asleep at his post. The captains court-martialed him this day ("Alexander Willard was brought foward Charged with Lying down and Sleeping on his post whilst a Sentinal, on the Night of the 11th.. To this Charge the prisoner pleads Guilty of Lying Down, and Not Guilty, of Going to Sleep." ). The captains disagreed with him, and he received 25 lashes each day for four days.
