Editor's Note:

Floyd did not comment on the nearly treeless expanse they had entered but Clark continued to examine it closely. Waubonsie State Park near Hamburg, Iowa, contains isolated bur oak trees old enough to have been mature when Floyd passed.

Monday July 16th
we Set out verry early and prossed on the Side of a Prarie. the wind from the South. Sailed ouer Boat. Run on a Sawyer. Sailed all day. made 20 miles. passed Sevrall Isd. Camt on the North Side
