Editor's Note:

The river is extremely crooked through here. A soldier cutting across the prairie inside one bend measured off less than a 1,000 paces; the boat, meanwhile, had to travel almost 19 miles to go between the same two points.

Set out at the usel time. prosed on under a Jentel Brees from North Est. Sailed. day Clear. passed Red Seeder Bluffs on the South Side. made 16 miles. Camped on a Sand bare in the middel of the River
