Dr. Charles McDougall (1804-1885) was the Army Surgeon at Fort Winnebago in 1834. He served in the Black Hawk War and the Civil War, and ultimately rose to be a brigadier general. Col. C. was Colonel Enos Cutler (1781-1860), who commanded at Fort Winnebago from 1831 to 1835. A sketch of his life is in Wisconsin Historical Collections, 15:106-107

Rainy most of the day. Passed the time mostly with Dr. McDougall, a very fine man and a christian. Towards night it cleared off and was pleasant. Passed the night at Col. C's.
