Term: Bridge War (Milwaukee)
Definition:
"During the years from 1840 to 1845 there were frequent disputes between the residents of the east and west sides of the river in Milwaukee relative to the locating and maintaining of bridges. The trouble reached a point of bitterness and several bridges were destroyed, and communication between the two sections of the city was cut off. The territorial legislature of 1845 settled the disputed points and ended the 'Bridge War.'"
