Term: Hundred Day Men

Definition:

On April 21, 1864, the governors of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin jointly tendered to the president for extra service of 100 days 85,000 men. The 39th, 40th and 41st Wisconsin regiments entered the service under this arrangement.
