Definition: popular Friday night tradition found statewide; standard fare is battered or deep-fried fish accompanied by potato (baked, mashed, French fries, etc) and cole slaw; popularity generally attributed to tradition of meatless Fridays among German Catholics and Wisconsin's proximity to Great Lakes; became a social tradition during Prohibition when taverns sought a gimmick to draw crowds;
