Term: Quarry, Manitowoc Co.

Definition: A post office was established at Quarry in 1904 and was closed in 1945. The "Wisconsin Gazetteer and Business Guide" first mentions it in 1905, when it was home to the Empire Lime and Stone Co., a cheesemaker and sawmill. By 1917 the population had increased to 200, and there were two lime-quarrying operations, a sawmill, a general store and a hotel. By 1925 the population had fallen to 100, though the two lime-quarrying businesses, the hotel and the general store were still in business.
