Term: Drummond's Island
Definition: An island where the waters of Lakes Michigan, Superior and Huron meet, southeast of Sault St. Marie and northeast of Mackinac. In the early 19th century the British maintained an important trading post on the island, and the Sauk and Fox, in particular, traveled long distances to meet with English officials and merchants here until the Black Hawk War of 1832 (map).
