Term: bayonet (Civil War)
Definition: a dagger-like steel weapon that is attached to or at the muzzle of a gun and used for stabbing or slashing in hand-to-hand combat. In the Civil War, the bayonet killed/wounded few soldiers relative to firearms. They were often used as camp tools such as tent stakes or candleholders.
