Term: Fort Crawford
Definition:
Ft. Crawford, 1830, by Henry Lewis WHI-22616
Two different American military posts of this name were built at Prairie du Chien; the first was occupied 1816-1829 on the mound where Villa Louis now stands, and the second 1829-1856 was built on slightly higher ground nearby.
