Term: Attica [origin of place name]
Definition: First called Winneshiek, then Milford, but soon changed back to Winneshiek. When the post office was established it was called Attica, as there was, at that time, one post office in the state named Winneshiek. The name Attica was suggested by Jeptha Davis, formerly from Attica, NY.
