Named from Indian word "ossi," meaning "stone" or "stony place."
Longfellow called Osseo, the "son of the evening star" (song of Hiawatha).
Name generally credited with being of Indian origin.
There are other towns of this name in Michigan and Minnesota. More than likely the name was chosen from the name of Hiawatha's character- C.E. Brown
