Term: Wingra Lake [origin of place name]
"J.A. Noonan, a land hunter here in 1837, heard its [Dead Lake] name as Wingra, and ascertained that Wingra means "duck." Lake Wingra was formerly called Dead Lake, but has resumed it's earlier name.
