Term: Souligny, Menominee leader, 1785-1864

Definition: Shu'nuni'u, in Menominee, and grandson of the French trader of the same name; he fought with Tecumseh against the U.S. during the War of 1812 but supported the Americans against Black Hawk in 1832; see his portrait and more information about him in the WHS Museum's online painting collection at www.wisconsinhistory.org/museum/collections/online
