Term: Menominee Treaty of 1831
Definition:
Agreement negotiated Feb. 8 at Washington, D.C. with the Menominee, who ceded the area from Milwaukee to Green Bay and the Fox River, and agreed to settle the New York Indians on a portion of Menominee lands; much misunderstanding arose over the latter provision, and years of subsequent negotiations followed.
