Description from John W. Hunt's 1853 Wisconsin Gazetteer: "BACHELOR'S GROVE,[ Footville] P. V., in Rock county, on section 4, town 2, range 11 E., of the town of Plymouth; 10 miles west from Janesville, and 40 miles south from Madison. Population 70, with 12 dwellings, 1 temperance hotel, and a M. E. church."
