conflict between Britain and the U.S., 1812-1815; in Wisconsin, French-speaking residents generally supported Britain and Indian nations tried to remain neutral, though some fought against the U.S.; the war ruined many early fur traders by disprupting both supply and demand; see "Prairie du Chien, Battle of" for a description of Wisconsin's only military engagement during the War.
