Term: Cahokia
Definition: Woodland-era metropolis across the Mississippi River from modern St. Louis; from 950 to 1300 A.D. it supported a population of 10,000 to 40,000 and established satellite communities as far north as Aztalan and Trempealeau, Wisconsin, about 1,100 A.D.
