Term: Butt (logging)
Definition:
The lower part or base of a tree trunk. To butt a tree meant to mark off the lower part to be left standing or discarded in the woods because it would not make good lumber. Same as butt-log. View more information about logging elsewhere at wisconsinhistory.org
