Salary: The beginning pay is the minimum of pay range 03-09, which is $11.715 per hour. A six month probationary period will be required.

Introduction:

The Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Administrative Services, Facilities Management Section is located at 816 State Street in Madison, Wisconsin, on the University of Wisconsin campus. For additional information please see the Wisconsin Historical Society website.

Job Duties:

This is a day shift position working under the direction of the Buildings/Grounds Superintendent. This employee's main responsibilities are to perform a wide variety of dock and mail room services at the Wisconsin Historical Society's (WHS) Headquarters building, 816 State Street, Madison, Wisconsin. This includes pickup, sorting and distribution of all mail, packaging of outgoing mail and handling of inbound and outbound freight transactions. In addition, this position is responsible for the recording of patron and personal checks mailed to the Society and sent to various divisions within the Society. 15% of this position's time will be performing and/or assisting with custodial/maintenance/grounds duties. The employee works alone or as part of a team as directed.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Ability to communicate with other staff and the general public.
  • Knowledge of the procedures for processing incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Know basic loading dock operations for receiving and shipping US mail, Inter-D mail.
  • Understand procedures for handling USPS and Express mail services.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and endure periods of standing.
