Historic Sites Slash Rates On "Visitor Appreciation Day"
Anyone planning to visit one of seven historic sites owned and operated by the Wisconsin Historical Society should mark Sunday, June 6, on their calendars to achieve big savings on admission prices that day only. Six of the sites will slash admission prices to $2 per person, adults and children alike, for a single day only — Sunday, June 6 — to show appreciation for their past visitors and to give new visitors an inexpensive entrée to the fun and excitement of living history.
The special offer includes these historic sites: Old World Wisconsin in Eagle; Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien; Wade House in Greenbush; H. H. Bennett Studio & History Center in Wisconsin Dells; Pendarvis in Mineral Point; and Stonefield in Cassville. Madeline Island Historical Museum in La Pointe will offer free admission on June 6 only, and admission to First Capitol in Belmont, which opens June 16, is free all season. The reduced-admission offer does not include Circus World Museum in Baraboo.
"'Visitor Appreciation Day' is the Historical Society's way of saying thank you to past patrons for their support of the historic sites and to introduce first-time visitors to see these historic sites for the first time at radically discounted rates," said Alicia Goehring, who directs the Society's historic sites program. "Anyone who has ever been curious about what living history has to offer should take this opportunity to find out firsthand."
The event coincides with a statewide free-admission day at Wisconsin State Parks, offering an ample selection of state park and historic site destinations to mix-and-match for a family friendly Wisconsin outing. The weekend of June 5-6 also offers free fishing statewide.
