The Wild, Wild West In Wisconsin
The Wild, Wild West is about to make a come back — in Wisconsin! The rowdy antics of 19th-century Wild West showman William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody and his Congress of Rough Riders of the World will take center stage at Wade House in Greenbush Saturday and Sunday, August 21-22, as the historic site reenacts Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days with special two-hour arena shows at 7 p.m. Saturday and a matinee at 2 on Sunday afternoon.
In addition to the arena shows, on both days of the event visitors can see legendary Wild West characters in action such as "Little Sure Shot" Annie Oakley, "Cowboy Kid" Johnnie Baker and Buck Taylor, "The King of the Cowboys." Each day visitors can expect to see these entertaining characters hone skills ranging from wielding a bullwhip to trick shooting with revolvers and rifles. Other scenarios that will unfold throughout both days include gunfights, holdups and the dispensation of frontier justice to outlaws.
Visitors can explore a cowboy "boom town" that includes such Wild West institutions as the omnipresent small-town saloon, populated by various ruffians and n'ere-do-wells but also stocked with cool drafts of root beer and other refreshments. An Old West market will also offer reproduction goods for sale, and a cowboy food stand will serve up a variety of Wild West favorites.
Photo opportunities will abound. In addition to the ongoing spectacle of frontier showmanship, visitors can pose for pictures with the likes of Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley.
Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show is organized by the Wade House Friends to benefit the historic site's educational mission. Wells Fargo Bank and the Wisconsin State Horse Council sponsor the event. For more information visit the Wild West Show home page.
