Historical Society Budget Clears Joint Finance Committee
The Legislature's budget-writing Joint Committee on Finance voted 16-0 on Tuesday, May 17, to tentatively accept recommendations for the Historical Society contained in the Executive Budget that Governor Jim Doyle submitted to the Legislature in February. The governor's budget recommends eliminating 3.75 permanent, state tax-funded positions from the Society's workforce. Joint Finance will continue deliberations on the Executive Budget for several more weeks. Once the committee concludes work on the Executive Budget, it goes to both houses of the Legislature, where it could undergo further changes before a final version is agreed upon by the full Legislature and sent to the governor's desk for his consideration.
