Celebrating the Built and Buried Past

Cutler Park and an illustration of people building a burial mound
May is Historic Preservation and Archaeology Month, a time to reflect on the important role that historic preservation plays in communities all across Wisconsin. Cities and towns, local historical societies, museums, public libraries and other institutions statewide are using the occasion of Historic Preservation and Archaeology Month to celebrate the critical role that historic places play in everyday life.

Join the Wisconsin Historical Society, our 2005 sponsors and communities throughout the state in celebrating Wisconsin Historic Preservation and Archaeology Month. With events planned statewide, from a lighthouse tour in Door County and a cemetery walk in Markesan to an Indian mound bus tour in Horicon and a weekend restoration symposium in Mineral Point, there are opportunities for everyone to learn about Wisconsin's rich history in new and interesting ways.
