Join the Union Army at Old World Wisconsin
The Union Army takes centerstage at Old World Wisconsin on Labor Day weekend 2005 as the historic site celebrates the occasion with a Civil War Encampment. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, September 3 & 4, the historic grounds of the outdoor museum become home to several different cavalry, infantry and artillery units who pitch tents and demonstrate Civil War camp life during the 1860s. The veteran soldiers will be holding rallies to attract fresh recruits from among the visitors, too.
From the flag raising ceremony, dress parade and knapsack inspection to weapons drills and the firing of a live cannon, there is interactive and educational family fun in store for all comers. Learn about dances of the Civil War period, visit the Soldier's Aid Society, or just meet and mingle with reenactors who know all about Civil War life — and who love to share their knowledge with others. Paticipating units include Cushing's Battery; 1st Alabama Cavalry; 3rd Wisconsin Infantry, Company E; 31st Wisconsin Infantry; and 41st Virginia Infantry. Several civilian reenactors will be on hand as well.
Veterans with proof of military service receive free admission.
