Historical Images of Wisconsin Women
The role of women in Wisconsin history is richly documented in the Visual Materials collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society. Included are not only exceptional women, but also those who are often unheralded as they go about the tasks of daily life. Family photographers, professional photographers and photojournalists have all contributed. They have captured a visual record of women working on the farm and in the city, participating in wartime activities and protest movements, caring for families, working in factories, and relaxing or participating in sports. More than 1,000 of these images are included in our Featured Gallery.
