Find Funding for Your Historic Property
The rehabilitation of a historic house, the adaptive reuse of an old school or the preservation of an archaeological site can become a costly undertaking. The availability of funding can mean the difference between a good preservation project and a great one, and sometimes it means that a wishful project can become a reality.
To aid owners of historic properties, the State Historic Preservation Office has compiled a list of known funding sources in a searchable database. Users can search the list by identifying their status, for example "Non-Profit Organization," by the type of funding sought and by the type of project. Some of the programs are administered by staff within the Wisconsin Historical Society, however most of the funding comes from outside sources, including many private foundations. In addition to information about specific funding programs, the site contains links to guides and collections regarding grant opportunities and the preparation of application materials.
Go directly to the searchable database, or reach it through the Historic Buildings and Preservation home page.
