Wisconsin Historic Sites Celebrate a New Season
Astounding Chinese circus acrobats, a new American Indian Doll exhibit, and the 150th anniversary of Wisconsin's first tourism mecca — Wisconsin Dells — are just a few of the reasons to visit the Society's nine one-of-a-kind historic sites in the coming weeks and months. Whether you've visited the historic sites in the past or have never before "lived" history, the 2006 season offers a dazzling variety of new acts, events and attractions while still providing tried-and-true crowd pleasers such as the 19th-century characters who populate Old World Wisconsin's ethnic farmsteads and crossroads village. Old World Wisconsin has already opened for the season, with special early season weekday hours that offer opportunities to experience living history on a budget.
Circus World Museum, already open daily for tours of its circus history exhibits and the world's largest collection of circus wagons, will begin its annual performance season on May 20 with a rollicking roll-out of new entertainment ranging from some of mainland China's most accomplished acrobatic circus performers and magic shows to Elephant Encounters and the perennial favorite, KidsWorld Circus.
New events in store for 2006 include a Historic Trades Weekend at Wade House, a Midsummer Festival at Pendarvis and Railroad Days at Stonefield. Past visitors as well as those new to the experience of living history may want to mark their calendars for recurrent favorites such as Rituals of Spring at Old World Wisconsin and a reenactment of the only battle of the War of 1812 fought on Wisconsin soil at Villa Louis.
For those who have never visited one of these historic sites, or for folks wanting to introduce them to friends or family, don't forget to mark your calendar for Saturday, June 4, when Visitors Appreciation Day offers big savings on admission to the following sites (Visitor Appreciation Day offer not valid at Circus World):
Admission is always free at First Capitol.
