Old World, Madeline Island to Honor July 4

The Harmony Brass Band parades through Old World Wisconsin's 1870s crossroads village on the Fourth of July

Uncle Sam's going to celebrate another birthday on Tuesday, July 4, and both Old World Wisconsin and Madeline Island Historical Museum have festivities planned to honor the occasion. Old World Wisconsin has an additional reason to celebrate this year. The outdoor museum of living history will commemorate its 30th anniversary as Wisconsin's flagship historic site. To pay tribute to the milestone, and to celebrate the Fourth in historic style, Old World will re-create celebrations from the 19th and early 20th centuries, including old-fashioned games, a band concert, a patriotic hymn sing, and a festive parade through its 1870s crossroads village.

Madeline Island Historical Museum traditionally kicks off the summer season on the Fourth of July with a Celebration on the Green featuring a festive parade through the historic village of La Pointe, ending with a patriotic program on the museum green. While helping the islanders and summer cottagers celebrate the beginning of their summer season, be sure to take in the museum's new exhibit of rare and one-of-a-kind of Native American dolls from the Crandall American Indian Doll Collection.
