Chinese Acrobats Dazzle Circus World Crowds

Chinese acrobats at Circus World Museum

The "ooohs" and "aaahs," punctuated by spontaneous and thunderous applause, tell the tale. An incredibly talented troupe of Chinese circus acrobats direct from mainland China dazzles crowds at Circus World Museum twice daily with their amazing feats of balance, synergy and athleticism. The audience's enthusiasm for the show is palpable not just in their bursts of applause but in the smiles and expressions of amazement that cross their faces as they watch these acrobats perform incredible stunts with apparent ease.

Balancing four tiers of liquid-filled glasses and candles on her forehead, one young acrobat climbs aboard a platform mounted on a half-circle base, then ascends a pair of ladders before flourishing a pair of colorful banners with her free hands — all without disturbing the delicate and elaborate balancing act atop her forehead. A pair of vividly multi-colored acrobatic "lions" delights the crowds with their perfectly coordinated leaping and bounding antics before jointly mounting a giant red ball and rolling it across a teeter-totter. Five female acrobats give new meaning to the word balance as they climb five chairs stacked vertically on a sixth that rests atop four delicate vases. In one of their finale feats, 10 of the acrobats mount a single bicycle and ride it in a circle before the amazed crowd.

Their efforts don't go unappreciated. One visitor who saw the show wrote to say how much he and his family enjoyed it. "My family and I finally made it back to Circus World for the first time in more than 20 years — we had a great time! The Chinese acrobats were absolutely spellbinding, one of the best acts I've ever seen. I will pass on my review of this act to everybody I can," wrote Mike Farrell of Brookfield, Wisconsin.

The Chinese circus acrobats may headline Circus World's performance season this year, but there are plenty of other exciting acts and attractions to see as well. Experience an Elephant Encounter with ponderous pachyderms strutting their stuff or try to spot the trickery of master illusionist Tristan Christ and his Illusions of Reality show. Doodles the clown provides the laughs in his Clowning Around show, and KidsWorld Circus gives the younger set a chance to create their own circus performance.
