Book Spring Historic Sites School Tours Now!

A group of youngsters get a hands-on lesson in the way chores were done in the 19th century

Teachers, spring has sprung and soon your elementary school students will be itching to get out of the classroom and have some fun in the sun. And, thanks to school tour programs at the Wisconsin Historical Society's historic sites, opportunities for hands-on educational field trips are many — and as varied as the history the sites interpret. And, because school group trips tend to fill up quickly, now's the time to get serious about planning and reserving them.

Old World Wisconsin has recently completed a top-to-bottom restructuring of its school group tours, including five all-new, two-hour educational experiences that give teachers and their students wide lattitude in determining how they want to enjoy their outing while learning firsthand lessons in 19th- and early 20th-century Wisconsin history. They can choose between school tours that re-create daily life in a 19th-century crossroads village and tours that focus on Norwegian, German and Finnish immigrants as well as African American settlers in Wisconsin. For smaller school groups that have the time, there's also a five-hour-long tour experience called A Day in the Life that immerses students in daily life on a 19th-century Danish farmstead. For all the details on how to book an Old World Wisconsin school tour, visit the site's general school tour information page.

The Society's other historic sites also offer school tour packages, meaning that no matter where you're located, there is likely to be a school tour destination suitable for you and your school group.
