Would you like to be part of a special celebration of two important anniversaries in Wisconsin baseball history and support the Wisconsin Historical Museum at the same time? Then the museum is the place to be on Sunday, July 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. when it will hold a fund-raiser based around Wisconsin's favorite baseball teams — the 1957 World Champion Milwaukee Braves and the 1982 American League Champion Milwaukee Brewers.

Guests at the event will:

  • See the museum's new exhibit, World Series Wisconsin.
  • Meet and greet two special guests — Johnny Logan, the legendary shortstop of the 1957 Braves, and Jerry Augustine, pitcher for the 1982 Brewers.
  • Indulge in the taste of Wisconsin at the Old Fashioned Tavern & Restaurant located on Capitol Square, two blocks from the museum. The menu includes: foot-long hot dogs, brats and kraut, potato salad and chips, Door County cherry salad, fruit salad, chocolate chip cookies, beer on tap and sodas.
  • Have their photograph taken with two of the Klement's racing sausages (everyone should be sure to bring a camera!).
  • Receive a commemorative World Series Wisconsin baseball cap.

Tickets are $100 per person. Only 300 tickets will be sold, so please act now. Call the museum at 608-264-6555 to place your order. Payment may be made by check or major credit card. Proceeds will benefit the museum's exhibition program.

Opening July 17, the exhibition World Series Wisconsin will relive the excitement of the zenith years of Milwaukee's championship baseball teams. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Braves' World Series victory over the New York Yankees and the 25th anniversary of the Brewers' American League pennant win.

World Series Wisconsin will present the stories of the teams' peak seasons through an impressive collection of dozens of authentic, game-used uniforms, equipment, and gear. Among just a few of the "must see" artifacts that will be on display are:

  • From 1957, Hank Aaron's road jersey and a bat he used in the All-Star game, Joe Adcock's road jersey, and a bat used by Red Schoendienst in the World Series.
  • From 1982, Pete Vuckovich's glove, Paul Molitor's batting helmet, and the bat and ball from Robin Yount's game five home run in the World Series. Fans will have their place in the exhibit as well. Original objects from Milwaukee County Stadium, including seats, home plate and part of the scoreboard, the microphone used by radio announcer Earl Gillespie, programs, tickets, pennants, and other fan memorabilia will help bring back memories of both World Series.

Make your reservations now for what promises to be a memorable afternoon commemorating Wisconsin's baseball history and its championship teams.
