New Museum Exhibit Recalls World Series Past

The World Series comes to Wisconsin every 25 years. Milwaukee Brewers fans are hopeful that history will confirm this statement, and with the Brewers leading the Central Division of the National League, their hopes may be realized. It was 50 years ago that the Milwaukee Braves reached their peak by winning the World Championship in seven games against the New York Yankees. The Braves returned to the World Series the following year and again faced the Yanks, but lost in another seven-game barnburner.

Twenty-five years ago the Milwaukee Brewers turned in their best season to date. They beat the California Angels to win the American League pennant, and despite losing to the St. Louis Cardinals in yet another seven-game World Series, returned to a heroes' welcome in Milwaukee.

Regardless of the Brewers' fortunes, the World Series will indeed return to Wisconsin this year ... in the form of an exhibition at the Wisconsin Historical Museum that celebrates the banner years of 1957 and 1982. Opening July 17, the new World Series Wisconsin exhibit recalls two generations of great baseball memories with more than 200 objects, scores of historical photographs, and audio and video clips of Milwaukee's greatest World Series moments. Among the objects are authentic uniforms, bats, balls, gloves, and gear used by members of the 1957 Braves and 1982 Brewers. These artifacts have not been on public display in one place since the Series were played. Don't miss this rare opportunity to relive Wisconsin baseball's most triumphant times.

On Wednesday, July 18, the museum hosts a baseball-themed craft program in which participants will create a team pennant and meet a Madison Mallards player.

On Sunday, July 22, join legendary Braves shortstop Johnny Logan and Brewers pitcher Jerry Augustine for a special event featuring food, fun, and baseball memories.
