Meet the Mascots at the Museum!
"Got mascots?" On Saturday, September 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors to the Wisconsin Historical Museum can meet and mingle with several well-known mascots from regional sports teams. They can also participate in baseball scoring classes, baseball arts and crafts for kids, visit the World Series Wisconsin exhibit and more!
Two of the Famous Klement's Racing Sausages will be "hot dogging" around during the entire event, along with the Madison Mallards' Maynard G. Mallard, Millie and Bonehead. Special guests include the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club's Bernie Brewer™, who will be at the museum from 10 a.m. to noon, and Bucky Badger™, who will be trading "high fives" with folks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also popping in during the event will be Culver's Restaurant mascot, Scoopie. Visitors can meet and greet the mascots, shake their hands (or paws, as the case may be), and take pictures with them. So, bring along the cameras!
Mascots are just part of the busy day. The Society for American Baseball Research will present two workshops on how to score a baseball game (at 11 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m.), a newly crafted presentation on the 1957 Braves players (at noon and 1 p.m.), and a program on County Stadium (at 12:30 p.m.). The Wisconsin Historical Society film, "Braves, Brewers & Baseball: A Conversation with Baseball Commissioner Allan H. 'Bud' Selig," will be shown at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Smaller children who might not appreciate the finer points of baseball scoring will have the opportunity to color baseball images or create a team pennant throughout the event.
Finally, the exhibit World Series Wisconsin will be open for viewing. This exhibit brings together more than 200 authentic, game-used equipment and uniforms, fan memorabilia, and stadium objects. Relive those wonderful memories of the 1957 Milwaukee Braves and the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers while standing in the gallery surrounded by their history.
This day is sponsored by the FRIENDS of the Wisconsin Historical Society. All activities are free with admission by donation.
