It's Horror Week at the Museum!
Each October, when the weather starts to cool down, the Wisconsin Historical Museum prepares for a transformation. Visitors to the museum can stop in and take part in programs that range from watching a classic horror movie or making spooky crafts with the kids to attending a special "Horror Sandwiched In," a version of the noontime lecture series more commonly known as "History Sandwiched In."
The Fourth Annual Wisconsin Historical Museum Horror Week starts on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, and runs through Wednesday, October 31, 2007. During "Horror Week," classic films are shown daily, with this year's movies having a science fiction theme.
"Horror Week" also coincides with the Wisconsin Educational Association Council fall conference, and offers special activity stations for families and children who are looking for a place to visit on their days off from school. At the special drop-in arts and crafts stations, children can pretend to be Dr. Frankenstein and design their very own monster. The "Create Your Own Monster" drop-in activity will be available for visitors Thursday, October 25, through Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. To help the museum support its programs, Horror Week has a suggested program donation of $3 per person.
Two special highlights from this year's events will be the "IT Film Festival" and Odd Wisconsin. The movie's creators and actors from It Came From Another World, one of the featured "IT" films, will be on hand Friday, October 26, from 7-10 p.m. to discuss their movie and sign autographs. On Tuesday, October 30, the Wisconsin Historical Society's Erika Janik will discuss her new book on the amusing, perplexing, and unlikely stories from Wisconsin's past in this year's "Horror Sandwiched In" program.
