Discover the Spirit of Christmas Past
As another holiday season approaches, with all the nerve-rattling hustle and bustle that comes with it, it's nice to know that people can still experience the Christmas season at a slower pace and celebrate the holidays much the same as Wisconsin's pioneers did. Old World Wisconsin will present a special postseason look at The Spirit of Christmas Past from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, December 1-2 and 8-9. The 1870s crossroads village will be all decked out for the occasion, and you'll find holiday merriment in many forms within several village buildings and homes — from ornament making and holiday storytelling to stringing popcorn and caroling. On those same two weekends, you and your family could partake of a festive Serbian Holiday Dinner complete with sumptuous ethnic fare and musical entertainment in an event sponsored by the Friends of Old World Wisconsin.
On Friday, December 15, in an event sure to put the youngsters in the family in the holiday spirit, Old World Wisconsin will offer an opportunity to have Breakfast with Father Christmas from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Face painting, balloons, old-fashioned goodies and a chance for kids to have their pictures taken with Father Christmas will make this a day to be remembered for years to come.
If you have some holiday shopping to do, and you would like to browse a selection of truly unique gifts with a historic twist. look no further than the Old World Wisconsin museum store, which stocks a variety of 19th-century-style gift items ranging from historic games and period clothing to a wide-ranging selection of books rooted in Wisconsin and American history. The store will be open from 2 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, December 1-2 and December 8-9, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. December 3-7 and December 10-15.
