Wade House Hearthside Dinners a Big Hit

While most Midwestern historic sites batten down the hatches for winter to focus solely on their upcoming summer seasons, Wade House has begun a new tradition that has proven very popular — by each month of the off-season hosting an interactive meal from a bygone era. At the next Hearthside Dinner on Saturday, March 15, for example, guests will pitch right in and — not taking any 21st-century shortcuts — will help prepare the 19th-century-style, midday meal in the Wade House kitchen. After preparing the meal, guests and staff will sit down together in the Wade House dining room to enjoy the fruits of their labors.

The historic ambience of the 1860s stagecoach inn, the meal prepared from an authentic historic recipe, and the period tools and techniques used in its preparation combine to create a truly unique dining experience that Hearthside Dinner guests won't find anywhere else. Here's the menu:

  • Squash Soup
  • Pork Loin Roast
  • Red Cabbage with Apples
  • Mashed Turnips
  • Glazed Carrots
  • Cranberry Muffins
  • Bread Pudding
  • Cider Cake
  • Cider
  • Coffee

Some Hearthside Dinners are already full, and bookings are already being taken for dinners next fall so it's not too early to make your reservations now by contacting Wade House at 920-526-3271 or via email. In addition to the March 15 Hearthside Dinner, future dinner dates include April 19, October 25, November 1 and November 8.
