Spring into the Season with the Magazine
How do you know when spring is here? When the spring issue of the Wisconsin Magazine of History arrives in your mailbox and at bookstores around the state! In this issue, you'll find stories on the construction of the Kilbourn Canal, how to discover the history of old houses, Works Progress Administration art in Wisconsin during the Depression, and a sneak peak at new book from the Wisconsin Historical Society Press, Wisconsin Korean War Stories.
The cover story, "Ho-Chunk Powwows: Innovation and Tradition in a Changing World," explores the changing nature of powwows since the Ho-Chunk opened them up to the public in 1905. Long a traditional means of celebrating the beauty of dance and music, as well as an expression of tribal values, Ho-Chunk powwows have also become a source of income for the tribe in the last 100 years.
